Scientific Support in Mössbauer Spectroscopy and Chemical Speciation Modelling, Coordination and Management
FOR 580 Z

Bewilligung: FOR 580 Electron Transfer Processes in Anoxic Aquifers
In this project we propose to integrate the methodological requirements of the entire research group regarding iron speciation by applying surface-specific modes of 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy together with chemical species modelling to evaluate the chemistry and dynamics of biogeochemical processes at the mineral-water interface. We will focus on reduction and oxidation processes of and at iron oxides as affected by geochemical conditions such as DOM and sulphide. Direct spectroscopic observation of the changing iron speciation under in situ conditions will enable us understand interfacial iron reactions, the transient nature of iron surfaces, and the complex interplay of iron, DOM and sulphide biogeochemistry in anoxic aquifers. Additionally, the Z-Project will coordinate and manage the Research Unit
